Lake Winnipesaukee Region of New Hampshire
Lake Winnipesaukee is located in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire at the foothills of the White Mountains. Lake Winnipesaukee is far and away the largest lake in the state and the sixth largest lake that lies completely within the borders of the USA. Surrounded by three mountain ranges, the wooded shoreline and crystal clear water of this spring-fed lake make it a popular summer resort and a place to rest and relax in beautiful surroundings and enjoy water sports of all sorts. Lake Winnipesaukee is particularly uniques because many of the surrounding towns reside on the lake. Making day trips or going for dinner by boat is very easy and with town docks easily accessible in all the lakeside towns which include Meredith, Center Harbor, Moultonborough, Tuftonboro, Wolfeboro, Alton, Gilford and Laconia.
All of the lakeside towns offer a different and unique feel about them. Meredith is a lovely restored mill village and offers some of the finest dining and shopping in the Lakes Region. You will also find many antique, art and craft galleries here. Wolfeboro, "the oldest resort town in America," has a beautiful village area and a historic Main Street. From the town docks shopping and dining await. In the northwest corner of Lake Winnipesaukee you will find Center Harbor. Center Harbor is the winter home of the Mount Washington tour boat and the Senters Market complex, which is within walking distance of the town docks and boat launch. Alton Bay in the southeast corner of Lake Winnipesaukee offers public docking as well with lakeside dining and live entertainment on the floating bandstand in the summer months. Weirs Beach in Laconia is a child's dream with a large boardwalk with arcades, mini-golf, pizza and bumper cars. Weirs Beach is also home base for the annual motorcycle week which is famous world wide. Gilford, Moultonborough and Tuftonboro also provide public docks and parks, each with their own charm and heritage. All the communities have fireworks displays on the fourth of July, which are fantastic by boat.
